> Lotus Notes isn't JUST an email client - it is a rich client which does a LOT more than just email.
I know. I've been using Notes since version 3. But if you ask 100 users (not techies) they will say its an email client. Groupware, what's that?
That's the whole point. I think the developers on Notes had so much more to deal with that the Office Outlook guys. IBM had all sorts of extra application stuff to support, and maybe forgot to focus on the e-mail ease of use. Whilst Microsoft focused on making email/calendar really nice...well, why wouldn't they, they never had anything else :-)
It's great that IBM is focusing on the UI in Notes, it's a really nice client but there's still a lot more to do. Drag and drop Calendar invites, integrated contact details in your mail file, a decent Redo feature to match the new Undo feature (one day please), a lighter client (250MB of RAM - needs to be much less), freshen up the Replicator tab and other items to new look...etc.
What is great..Nice new UI (Mac feel), spell check in email, type ahead names like sametime, integrated Sametime is fantastic and something IBM can really market (especially with Cisco call manager etc.). The developers such as Mary-Beth etc. are doing some great stuff and are heading in the right direction.
Pete
